The instructions said 'clockwise', but lucky for her, her potion didn't begin to rise, instead, it began to steam lightly... only visible to the most careful eye.

It meant they were, but not her. Her potion looked kinda different than the rest, because she'd forgotten to add the rest of the mixture after the spell. Cosgrach hadn't noticed it yet, however, so she had some time to correct it yet...

The potion started to make it known, however. It began to rise sloooowly... if the boy didn't do something soon, it'd flood.

He then took out his stirrer which he had thoroughly cleaned earlier and gave it seven stirs clockwise before adding the remaining lion fur.
Or was it really black?

As soon as he finished adding the lion fur, the potion began to boil and rise quickly. Something definitely went wrong there.

But why was she crying now!?

Cosgrach didn't even KNOW how he should react, so he didn't say anything. Ugh, this was the exact reason he didn't like Hufflepuffs, they cried too easily! He watched her a bit more closely as he walked slowly in the aisles, and once she caught up, he walked over to her again and addressed her in an encouraging tone.

"See, you did it well. No need to cry." Definitely not!

Cosgrach shrugged. What he said stood. The boy either started over, or do nothing. He kind of held his breath to see if the boy would protest more, but he was pleased to see that he didn't. Good.

She wasn't going to cry like that other first year, was she?

Cosgrach held his breath, but was relieved when Janelle faced it maturely. He looked at her potion, and said, "Why, add the rest of the mixture and go on!" Lucky for her, she hadn't done anything after the spell, so all she had to do was to continue, really. He smiled at her. She was fine.

Cosgrach saw what the boy was doing out of the corner of his eye, then turned to really see it. Cutty had taken cleanliness to another level, and Cosgrach was PROUD, although he probably had a little to do with it.

"Two points for thinking out of the box," he said to the boy. No wonder he was Soheir's son.

Cosgrach DID hear that and laughed to himself. Annabeth... was Annabeth.

He walked to the blackboard and tapped his wand twice to reveal the next set of steps.

11. Wait for 15 minutes for pewter cauldrons, 11 for brass and 3 for copper. The colour should gradually become grey
12. Add the chopped peppermint
"Now we wait for... 15 minutes if the cauldron is pewter, 11 for brass and only 3 for copper. In the meantime, if your peppermint isn't chopped, please chop it and once the time's up, add the chopped peppermint." They were ALMOST done. "Note the gradual colour change towards grey."
