She doodled a kitten in the corner of the parchment before setting her quill down to raise a hand. "Maybe kittens, 'cause they're still little? OOH or person-cats? Like the people who can turn into animals so they turn into cats. Anima-something? Animinius? Animali? Something like that..." She trailed off. Shoulda kept with the kitten answer, she knew more about kittens than person-cats.
Cassie nodded and snapped for Norah, "Very good thoughts, Kittens can be very unpredictable because they are babies, so one would probably not jump right to looking at them for reading unless they only had a kitten at home." Bouncing a bit on her heels as she walked about the room she glanced to her newest friend sitting on her desk all comfy like. "You are correct, Animagus is the word you are looking for. These are certainly not fortune telling cats." Unless they were seers on top of being Animagus, then maybe.

She wasn't crazy about them, and she was skeptical about being able to tell the future from whether such a creature was sitting, lying, naping, puring, prancing, hoping, jumping, walking, waltzing and so forth. Paying attention to who they liked and didn't like made more sense to her little mind, but she wasn't the Professor. And for good reason.

But, she was a witch, in a wizarding and witchy world. So many things outside of her understanding were possible. She simply had to be open to the prospect.

Clasping her hands in her lap, she chewed on her bottom lip as fought to refrain from petting said orange kitty. What type of cat....

Her hand sprung up. "Sphinx's, Miss?" Given Egyptians were a point of topic, and sphinx's were known for their riddle-bound ways. How difficult would it be to discern the future of a cat that spoke only in riddles? It likely moved in riddle some ways too.
Giving a few more snaps, she smiled "You are right Sphinx's would be another one that would not be easy to read and I would never recommend it." Complicated things they were.

Just not getting it.

Egypt and witches turning into black cats aside, he was just as stumped about the next question as he was about the first, BUT... he had thoughts on this one at least, thanks to Professor Quigley.

Hand up, he added his two knuts, "Cats that aren't really cats, like that are human but transfigured?"
"Very good Zeke, Animagus can not be used for Ailuromancy." Wonderful that he knew that and he got snaps for sure.

She gave the third year some snaps, "Well that is up for discussion, because that could fall under a form of Divination, but since the person was turned into a cat unwillingly and it becomes a familiar, it's not Ailuromancy that we are studying today, but really great thought process and answer!"

"Animagi?" Ruby said, hand going up just enough to be polite without seeming particularly over eager. It would have to be, right? They still had their human mind and thoughts even if sometimes they picked up totally weird animal tendencies.
Nodding as Ruby seemed to be processing what they were doing and then snapping and beaming at the sixth year. "Yes, very good. Animagi or Animagus are ones that we can not do this form of Divination on." She knew many of them knew Maddox was here, so that probably gave them a huge clue, but it was still great to hear.

"Because human minds are different than felines', right? And Animagi still have those, though they have some cat-like instincts. Is that why the Charms professor is here, ma'am?"

Ew. Who cared if his shape-shifting was cool? That WAS him on the desk, and Dima wanted him gone.

Shoo, Quigley. Shoo.
Snapping and beaming at the young third year she nodded, "Very good explanation. You are very correct." She glanced back towards Maddox, "The professor agreed to do me a favor by being here for this exact reason, yes." Very smart third year at that. She was getting a few extra snaps.

She took a mental note to look them up in her textbook later on, and hoped her lack of understanding would not affect her lesson. Using cat movements to predict the future sounded interesting. Nicole would be able to observe her cat Diamond and learn what would happen to her in the future!

She raised her hand to answer the professor's question. "I think it would be dying cats," the girl said. The fact that Egyptians put tablets in dead cats' mouths tagged uncomfortably at the back of her mind. Also, cats who were close to dying probably had a different thought process, though Nicole did not know much about death. Not that she wanted to learn more about it.
Stopping short on the next answer, Cassie didn't want to even think about any poor fur babies dying, but she kept her smile and snapped for the girls effort. "Well yes we wouldn't want to put pressure of readings on any cat that was sick or dying. I hope we never have to come across any of that though." Goodness how awful.

Even someone as easy going as Cassie the next answer made her take a double take. She took a moment and looked between Angel and the previous student that answered, "Yes we just covered the dying animals part. Thank you for trying though." She got snaps for doing at least that.

Margo had a quill at the ready for notes, she hoped that she had the right answer.
Nodding and snapping toward the next answer she was thrilled at how many new about Animagus. "Yes, very good Margo, very good!"

"Wonderful thought process Adi, it's actually hard to tell when it comes to mother cats. Some people say it is not wise to try and use them for readings, but others will say that because of their motherly instinct that they will be more perceptive and should be used." She snapped for her great answer.

Another with the dying cats, now why on earth would she ever do a lesson on dying animals. The chaos of their agonizing thoughts would be enough to kill her emotions. "No just as I said before that would not be a good idea to use a cat that is at it's end of life." She gave the girl a small smile trying to stay positive to all, "Very good yes, Animagus is correct." Giving her a few snaps at the end.

Listening to all the answers everyone around her was giving she began to take some notes in case she would need them later.

Note taking finished she raised her hand once more to answer the next question. "Would it be Animagi? Since it's not a true animal but a witch or wizard whom can change into one?" She answered though it was in the form of an uncertain question as well. It seemed correct to her since it was a person changing into an animal, therefore their mindset would still be there own, wouldn't it?
Looking on to another student she grinned, "Very good, yes because they are truly a witch or wizard we can not use them." Snaps for her!

He raised his hand to answer the professors question. "um, a feral cat? They don't know what you're doing to do and therefore they might act...crazy?" he guessed. He figured the whole animagi thing was correct, but he wanted to throw another answer out there just in case.
Eyes moving to another student she smiled at the Prefect, "Good thinking Caleb, but actually feral cats can actually be just as good as domesticated. Though I do like your explanation. It could be harder to get near them to study their movements." Which they could or could not be finding that out today.

"Professor I do not think a black cat could not be used because of the superstition surrounding them?" I mean it was a valid guess right? He looked over to Emmy and she was just sitting there very quietly. He smiled towards his girlfriend and held her hand.

"Oh Kace, that is just an awful superstition about black cats and actually it depends on which superstitions you hear, there is one out there if three black cats cross your path it will bring you good luck." So not all black cats are bad. Kace certainly got snaps for his input and effort.

Shame. Because he REALLY liked this Professor.

But he was back in reality now listening. See? Effort.

Hugh raised his hand, "Domesticated cats? They're too, for lack of a better term, domesticated so they can't, like, be as authentically wild in their reactions to things. Less animalistic. More cute kitten."
Well now this was an interesting thought as well and one that was on the opposite end of Caleb's. He got snaps, "Nice thinking Hugh, but domesticated cats can be just as good as feral when it comes to reading, but I really like your explanation and thought process."

Then a question was asked, causing Kate to pause and listen to some ideas first. Her ears picked up the answer of an older Slytherin girl (Ruby), and she raised her hand. "I agree with her," she said, pointing to the girl. "I think it's Animagi."

That would explain the cat perched on the professor's desktop.

Her hand slowly lifted up as Professor Morgan asked the next question. "Um...well...I'd say that cats that weren't really cats. Person transfigured into cats. Like animagi or...other situations like that."

Like people turned into cats AGAINST THEIR OWN FREE WILL. And Professor Quigley was still fresh in her mind--which is why she thought of animagi.
"Yes, very correct Eden." She got snaps as well.

How in Merlin's name would he be able to remember all of these for his OWLs, especially if everything sounded the same in this class? Maybe Sophie would have a good trick for it or something... Otherwise, there would be no hope. Did Sophie even take divination? Another good question, maybe. Anyways. Speaking of questions....

Huh?

Well, Zander did agree with all the people who said the animagi thing because that was pretty well thought out. Though, did they really count 'cause technically they weren't really cats. The stuff about the dying cats though... That was just unpleasant.

"I'd think Calico cats because they're grumpy." And horribly MEAN. His aunt had one. Ugh. Stupid cat was evil.
Looking to Zander she smiled and snapped, "Very interesting Zander, but why would you say they are grumpy? I have two and they are the most pleasant cats." She beamed at her two silly fur babies that were currently on a desk playing with a quill.

He had been quietly listening to what the happy professor was saying, he even noted some of it down even but mostly he was trying to not use his feet to push the cats away. It was really really hard.

Her next question had already gotten most of the logical answers so Noel didn't really know what to say but he added his two cents in anyway: "Unwilling cats" he said, after raising his hand. Because it was true. Cats were moody creatures - high and mighty even.
Well that was an interesting thought as well. "Hmm, maybe, but in readings they don't even know they are participating. So if you get them in a really bad mood that could be possible." Everyone had bad moods though so it was expected of cats too.

"Those were very interesting answers. I just love the thought process and reasoning you all have. It makes the lessons that much more exciting!" She gave them more snaps for the best answers! "Now as we talked and some of you have mentioned Animagus cats would not work in readings. Some even went on to explain because of their human like states. When a person changes themselves into a cat they still have the brain of a human. So their thoughts and views are just as they always were. "

She walked towards Maddox and stood behind him at the desk. "Now as you look around you see cats walking around, rubbing on legs, playing with quills, and sleeping in different positions. This cat in front of me has been in the same position for some time. Nothing has spooked him, nothing as caught his attention, and nothing has changed his position. He has picked this spot for a reason and in that process has shown many human like characteristics." She couldn't help but to give him a little pat. "Professor Quigley was very nice to come here today so we could see the difference between a normal cat and a human turned into a cat." Looking back down at Professor Quigley before making her way back around the desk, "Thank you Professor, I know you are a busy man, so if you would like to leave I think my demonstration between you and the normal cats is done." Plus it was time to really get into the lesson now.

Moving towards two cats that were sleeping she tried not to wake them. "Now as many of you have said in Ailuromancy the most common thing is to predict weather. Look at these two cats both sleeping. What do you think each sleep position means?" She pointed to one cat and then the other.
