Who's bloody brilliant idea was it to force him to teach at 9 am? No really, he wanted to know. Maddox had spent the night planning the lesson for today because procrastination might have gotten the better of him over the weekend and now he was exhausted. If he'd remembered the class was set for 9 he'd have gone to bed with plans to wing it. That wasn't the case though so there he was, napping under the illusion the children would spend the entire day in the Great Hall and they would show up when he was well rested.

It wasn't clear how long he'd been curled on on the desk sleeping before he heard what could have been footsteps. Lazily he opened his eyes but barely lifted his head except to glance at the clock. Eh, there was still time and the kid wasn't complaining so he'd just...stay curled up like this. Nothing to see here, just a ca--

Ooohh! What was that? Large, yellow eyes followed the boy up to his desk in the highest hopes that someone had taken him seriously with the apple sentiment but after he placed it there then took a seat Maddox's hope fell a little. Apples...but candy apples...still....apples. Alright, they'd do! He made a note of this one before turning his head and trying to go back to sleep. 5 points should do it.

Sleep though, didn't come as easy as it had at first with yet another student walking in. This one actually took a seat closer to him. "Meow." Something like 'hello' but if the students kept pouring in he might actually have to go back to being a man and wait out the rest of the time with them. So much for napping til 9.

Not even a glance in his direction? Maddox would be offended--and probably was--until he remembered he wasn't looking much like himself at the moment. It was to be expected he supposed and he wasn't in the mood to do something about it so...

Oh look, the little Ravenclaw Dima Toussaint showed up to class. He'd never expected to see this one again save for those coincidental moments where run ins happened around the castle, and even then he suspected the boy might just keep walking as if he didn't know him. Fancy seeing him slump into a seat at the back.

He was staring and Maddox stared back with his own large pair of yellow eyes. 'Sup?

"That your cat?" he asked Bianca as he sat down at the desk next to her.
And the bully that tried to get him through the Gryffindor window that first night. Ah the memories. Not particularly fond memories grant you but yes, he remembered this one well. But no, he was not her cat. He wasn't a cat to be owned--well he was a cat but not an actual, true, born this way cat, so yeah, no owning thanks.

Good Cat.

Dante took a random empty seat and waited for Professor Q to show up. He would give him like 5 minutes before he shut his eyes.
Mr. Barrington. That reminded him he still needed to change the kid's name in his attendance register. What was the name he'd chosen again? Nigel was it? Yes, yes he remembered but made no moves to acknowledge the boy. No need, he doubted the Ravenclaw spoke cat.

Ha. Haha. Kid was gonna try greeting him. That was funny and awfully polite of him given the empty desk up from. The Professor watched from the desk he was curled up on as this one entered the room too. Sad to say, he was yet another who had not bothered to bring a apple. Shame that.

O_O
Why....was he looking at him like that...? It was just a bit of black fur....all over him and in truth his tail had been one of his more endearing features next to his large yellow eyes so...what was this kid's deal? Maddox watched him and watched a little more before another student entering caught his attention.

So, walking quick but also still smiling because this was just so cool she found a place to sit, it was a seat in the middle of the classroom, not in the first row but also not in the last and... She just couldn't wait for the lesson to begin and to see what would happen!
The sad truth of it all was probably that these students were apple haters. Not one, not a single one save the candy earlier? Maddox didn't look at this one for very long, instead he curled up again preferring to enjoy his last few minutes of rest before he had to start the lesson.

Why yes, he was a nice cat thank you very much and despite not being an actual cat, he would be taking this for a compliment. It was the fur wasn't it? He liked to keep it thick and glistening if he could. You know, it added to the appeal.

So nice of him to notice!

Without even questioning it, Evie walked right over to the sleeping kitty and SAT down at the desk it was sleeping on. "Hi, kitty," she said (because it was normal to talk to cats more than people, apparently) and gave the kitty a little ear rub.
Was it just him or was the area around him getting crowded? The girl who sat in the next seat was attracting company faster than he was prepared for and soon there was one sitting at the actual desk he'd fallen asleep on just moments ago. Eh, did this mean he had to move? "Meow." Because she'd said 'hi'. It was only polite.

Eventually though, he would have to get up and get the lesson started but for now, he supposed he could enjoy the ear rub. Might as well.

Maddox gave a little yawn as he watched this next one enter. It didn't bother him too much that the kid didn't acknowledge him because he'd just gotten an ear rub and those kinda made everything better.

Making his way to an empty desk, he smiled at the cat - but did not touch! - and made his way to the back of the room. "Hi, Dima," he said, settling into the desk next to him.
Hold the snitch.

Maddox heaved himself into an upright position, large yellow eyes following the young Ravenclaw who was making his way to his desk. Was that...could it be? An apple. Well at least someone had the common decency about them. Tail flicking from side to side, he was tempted to head to his own desk and grab the treat but he opted not to. Note was made however and this one could have 5 points as well.

Bless his little giver's heart.

This was a potentially very useful class.
Having an apple now at his desk, Maddox wasn't too bothered by the fact that the next boy to enter hadn't bothered to take one with him. It was fine, all fine. No complaints here. A glance up at the clock said it was almost time to begin but by now he was sure that nap was a lost cause.

Talk about being ready for the lesson. By now Maddox had slipped back down into a curled position but his eyes landed on this one briefly and caught her getting ready for the class to start. It was nice knowing some came fully prepared to learn, even if it reminded him that he'd have to get up and do that teaching thing in a bit.

Eh.

O_O

Merlin, don't be dead. Maddox's ears pricked to attention as the young Hufflepuff nearly made her face acquainted with the floor. Luckily she hadn't actually fallen otherwise he'd have to take human form again and do that considerate Professor thing. If you asked him, it was much too early for that.

Ohhhh!! An apple! The second one of the day!!! He might have been grinning if he could but alas, it wasn't possible at the moment but she did get a rather cheerful "Meow!" And 5 points, she could have that too.

Large yellow eyes fixed on the next student to enter and take a seat. It was just...rather curious. Here he was curled up on a desk (apparently drawing attention), what could she possibly have to write at the moment? There weren't any notes.

Must have been a Ravenclaw thing. Maddox had never been one to understand that bunch.

Deciding a sufficient number of students had entered the class, Maddox was about to get off the desk, honestly he was but then another showed up meow-ing at him and petting his head and suddenly moving seemed like a lot more effort.

It would have to happen though. 9 am was drawing closer.

This one was giving him strange looks too. Right then. Had he never seen a cat on a desk before? Was this REALLY such a strange sight? Students these days, Merlin.

The dwindling hope he had in the boy was rebuilt however when he TOO put an apple on the desk. Ah yes, this was getting better and better. 5 points to you too good sir.

Being preoccupied with the apples now on his desk, Maddox almost didn't notice the appearance of this next one--not until her face was practically in his face forcing him into a sitting position as he tried creating some distance. The ear scratching was appreciated but some space would be nice.

The man was starting to rethink having decided to take that nap. It was starting to get out of hand and in all that, he hadn't been able to rest. Not much anyway.

Another apple! This was a complete win for him and if he was being honest which rarely happened it was more apples than he'd been expecting but...but...why wasn't she putting it on his desk like the others....?

Surely she hadn't brought the apple for herself because he had strict rules about food in his class that also bordered a bit on hypocritical but no one needed to know that.

His big yellow eyes stayed locked on the apple. He was taking it regardless and if it really was for him then she could have 5 points too.

This was new, a change from the red apples he'd been getting since morning. A welcomed change sure but all apples were good apples in his eyes and this little Ravenclaw also earned herself an easy 5 points.

Scoff.

Yet another selfish little Hufflepuff deciding to keep the apple for herself. If he'd known they were gonna take them to class to eat for themselves, he'd have put the food rule in bold and removed the one about apples. His little head tilted to the side as he watched her take a seat with the apple before turning to his desk again. THAT was where it belonged, not on HER desk. Did he have to spell it out for them??

In the event it was his, he would be taking it and she could have 5 points but if it wasn't his...he'd be taking it and she'd get nothing. Either way, he won.

Left right left right.

Maddox watched from the desk as the boy tossed the apple from one hand to the next over and over. Was he taunting him? Was that it? Bring an apple but keep it? Must have been a Hufflepuff thing. They were the only ones that brought apples but kept them on their person instead of placing them on his desk. Probably planning to take a bit when they thought he wasn't looking, huh?

Mean. He didn't mention liking apples so they could have them. No matter. The Professor would take it anyway...once he was back in a form that actually had opposable thumbs. It wouldn't be so bad. He'd give him 5 points for the gesture, even if it wasn't intended for him.

Pet pet pet.

If he wasn't careful, he'd get used to this then the class would never start. It was possible he would have to haul himself up now, just to prevent more students from giving him reason to stay like this. Just...why was the floor so far away...?

Okay, okay seriously he was going to get up. There might have only been 5 minutes left before the clock struck the hour and this seemed like a good enough time to start stirring. As Maddox uncurled he watched another student enter the room. This one didn't seem taken by the happenings of her classmates. There was something new for you.

Oh, hey. Cat.
He couldn't honestly say he was disappointed when the stream of apples seemed to stop pouring in. It'd been a fair amount of them that had taken his preferences into account and good on them. At current he supposed he could be satisfied with the ones presented...though more apples couldn't hurt, surely not.

He stretched, the fur bristling on his back as he worked out the little discomfort he felt. He needed to begin his lesson.

Maddox paused mid-stretch as he felt another hand. Oh? More students? Merlin he definitely needed to get a crack on things now. It looked just about like they were getting to the full amount of students which meant he didn't have to wait much longer and in that same respect, they shouldn't have had to wait any longer.

Uh-huh...so it was a Hufflepuff thing!! Could he throw them all in detention? Was taunting a Professor actually in the rule book? If not he had no problem saying it was anyway because this was unacceptable. Yet another student to have brought an apple but having it not placed at his desk with the others he was only left to assume it wasn't meant for him and that simply wouldn't do.

Not at all. Yet another apple he would be confiscating and another student who would be receiving 5 points.

These students weren't making it very easy for him. It seemed like every other second there was another that thought he was just SO irresistibly adorable that they had to pet him and as much as the gesture could be appreciated on the feline level, he had to class to start and needed to stop being distracted otherwise they'd never get anywhere.

With his resolve fully strengthened and this other student walking into the room, Maddox finally hopped off the desk he'd been sleeping on. Not a moment too soon either as it seemed that 9 am had approached and he was now obligated to educate this lot.

Not a fan of cats huh? Maddox watched one of the younger students put as much distance between them. Must have been like the 'Claw Prefect and that Gryffindor boy with their suspicious looks. Cat haters maybe? Or dead scared. Who could really tell what was going through the mind of a student these days?

If the class had been a bit nosier, Maddox may not have noticed but as it were, the bag and its loud thud were clearly registered and had his big yellow eyes darting over to the boy. It was probably the string of apologies that came pouring out after that saved this one. Honestly.

Was that some kind of enthusiasm for the class? He couldn't tell but this one reminded him of Meredith. You know it was bad when the Professor...cat...cat Professor got exhausted just LOOKING at you and he still had a whole lesson to teach! It was gonna be a long morning.

This one reminded him of why it wasn't a good idea to fall asleep in the classroom in the first place. Students would enter and get the wrong idea. This Slytherin had the wrong idea. If cats could squint, he would be completely squinting at this Hufflepuff too. Every single person who'd brought an apple but kept it themselves was a part of that yellow house. Did this mean they didn't want the 5 points? He wouldn't give it if she planned to keep the apple instead of placing it with the others and if she wouldn't give it up and all, he'd take it anyway.

No food allowed, none, not unless it was for him. Perhaps he should have scribbled that part at the end. The nerve of some people and a Prefect nonetheless.

As it turned out, the tiny people might have been harder to keep up with than his apples. No sooner than he'd spotted one, there was another making her way in looking as curious as the others. Must have been looking for him. Note to self, no more naps before the lesson. It simply didn't work out.

Another tiny person. How many did that make now? Huh, he must have lost count. Surely you couldn't expect him to keep up with the amount of apples he got AND the amount of First Years at the same time. It simply couldn't be done.

In the fourth year's mind, they were just a distraction from what they were here for - to learn charms.
And that looked like the last of the students. Yup. Could have been and even if it wasn't the hour had struck and he needed to get this show on the road, otherwise they'd never get anything done and before you know it, they'd all be saying it was HIS fault. Not the case, never the case. Ever.

Now that he'd made up his mind, he darted to the back of the room where the door stood open. Class was about to begin so...in one fluid movement, the cat stretched and grew and changed until it took on the form of a man. Now back to normal, the Professor gave another lazy stretch and a small yawn before he shut the door with a soft click. Granted, it wasn't locked locked, and late comers could still shove it open if they wanted to enter but he didn't want them getting the idea that they were early and welcomed.

Ahem. With that taken care of, Maddox made his way back to the front of the room, introducing himself as he did. "Good morning, glad you all managed to make it on time with no complaints about getting lost on the way." If they'd been lost, they certainly hadn't said and he was glad for that. The man wasn't here to listen to their problems. That required some deep digging for a sympathy tree and Merlin knew those were a lot of effort to grow. "Most of you don't know, but I am Professor Quigley and I'll be taking over the responsibility of teaching you lot Charms." The chalk got busy, writing his name at a moderate size on the board even as he spoke. "These are for you." He said sending name tags floating down to each desk. "I'll need you to write your names on them then stick it to your uniforms."

He'd learn the names...eventually...at some point...you know how it is.

While they were at that, he leaned leisurely against his desk and reached for one of his apples. Crunch. Mmm, this was real juicy. "I'd also like that thank those of you who got me apples. They're much appreciated." Which reminded him; selfish Hufflepuffs. "I trust the others of you with apples also meant them for me?" He might have been giving a somewhat pointed look but really, really, it was either that or they were breaking rules.

"Now then, before we get into the lesson, I have one simple question to ask." Ridiculously simple. "What do you do when you find yourself being attacked by something bigger than you?" Anyone could answer it; didn't even need a text book.

Class has officially begun, please do not post your charrie arriving after this point unless you're prepared for the IC consequences ^^ I'll post again in maybe another 10-12 hrs
