Mitterbill nervously detached himself from the wife-person and floated over to the food Marquee. Everything looked so indecent. Beautifully put together and terribly bad for you. Everything Jasper Mitterbill's soft spot for pleasures called him to respond to. The Balsamic Strawberry Bruschetta couldn't be too bad. This was the thought he'd used to reassure himself as he took hold of one of them and placed it onto his plate.
Again, with the shocking lack of seafood. Mariel was not intending to do much more than make an appearance as she did not really care to stay. Certainly the last New Year's Eve ball the Ministry put on was simply stunning and she enjoyed herself tremendously with her then fiance. But she had the feeling this garden party was going to be only slightly more than underwhelming and she was merely here because it was to be expected. Not that she would have an affected attitude because of lack of desire to be in attendance. She would still be cordial and welcoming, but she'd also be leaving when she saw the opportunity.
She did somewhat wish that Jorge could have come with her, but with his sister and her family visiting for the weekend, it was only hospitable that he stay for them. And that was probably another reason for her not wanting to be here all that much, but it gave her good reason to excuse herself sooner than later. She did hope they understood that she had work obligations.
Food would be the first order of the day as she was growing rather hungry already and her hand went subconsciously to her swollen belly as she headed straight for the marquee. Everything looked so delicious and she grabbed a plate before piling on several of the canapes. Turning to grab one of the drinks from the table, she noticed one of her fellow Department Heads.. one whose name she had only just learned because of his recent promotion. Otherwise she'd still be calling him Mystery Man.. not that she'd mind to be called Miss Jarvey. "Hello, Mr. Mitterbill," she said brightly, green eyes scanning the selection of beverages. She did miss having wine, though the strawberry lemonade wouldn't be a bad choice. Grabbing the glass, she turned her attention on the man in front of her again. "How are you settling in?" She knew he had the position for a couple months now, but it had been something of an adjustment for herself, she remembered, even the first year or so. Quote:

So she decided she'd get some food while here.
Smiling to the others as she walked past, Vic got a plate and put a few things on it. Taking a wine she turned and found an empty table. Pulling out her seat and sitting down, she decided it would be alright to slip her shoes off for a moment. She had spent a lot of time at home this break and heels were not something that she wore. Once she had engaged in some small talk with Mr. Mitterbill, Mariel turned to take her plate to a table and find a seat. She did love her heels and, though she was finding herself wearing lower, chunkier heels, it was becoming a little more difficult with her progressive pregnancy to wear them comfortably. Sitting to eat was what she needed right now.
Preferably with someone familiar.. or even one of her new employees. She did wish to welcome them into the Ministry if either of them did happen to attend and that would be a two birds with one stone sort of thing. Then she could leave all that more quickly. A light smile formed on her lips at the thought and she walked towards the tables. She didn't notice anyone distinctly new.. not that she knew what her employees looked like by sight yet, but she did spot a familiar face that made her smile even wider. Her best friend. Good company would make her stay here tolerable and even enjoyable. "Well, hello, Mrs. Culloden," the brunette said with a grin as she set her plate down on the table before pulling out the seat across from her. "How's married life treating you?" It had only been a week since she'd seen her, but she wanted to hear all about how happy she was certain Victoria was. Gently, she lowered herself into the chair for some small talk and some food.
