So, the boy raised his hand and then spoke when he was called upon. "Its the study of technology. Technology has the ology in the end and that makes it, as you previously had told us, the study of, so its the study of technology." He said, giving it a short example of how he got his answer.
Well wasn't someone just being a Sherlock right there with his answer. Fina fought the urge to roll her eyes at the Gryffindor when he basically just restated that it was the study of the term she was asking them to define. "Yes, the study of technology, but not what I was asking."

Right. The lesson was starting. Adi thought it was a wonder his Head of House did not loose her balance as she stood up. But he figured she must have had gotten used to heels. Anyway... Techne? Hmmm. The third year raised his left hand. "It means creating, perhaps, Professor?'' That was purely a guess.

The woman was fiddling with some of the wires at one computer, so maybe they did work. This could be fun then. Not as fun as making food, but still fun.

And now class was starting, but no actual computer time yet. Just Greek words. Lame. Penelope didn't know what techne meant, but she was willing to guess right now. So she raised her hand. "Does it mean something like...tools that can be built to help us do things?" That was the vaguest sort of thing she could come up with that the ancient Greeks might think of. Because she would've just said it meant things like computers, but ancient people didn't have those, unfortunately for them.

Not sitting under the desk and inspecting the millions of wires that it took for these things to work.

Things only needed like one now.

Exactly! Oh, Adi was a good little duck wasn't he?! The Prefect gave his hair a little fluff and added onto his answer. "Like..the art and skill it takes to, as Adi said, create something."

Back to thinking about the wires. And whether these computers were going to be slooooooooow.

Kace thought about it and he did agree more on the lines of Adi's answer.

Kace raised his hand, "Professor maybe it is like an art? It is along the lines of creating like Adi said.." he nodded towards his fellow puff.

Techne… didn't it have something to do with the creating or crafting of something new? She raised her hand to test her thought.

"I think it means… creating or making something new… so with the rest of the word it would be the study of… creation? crafting? I can't phrase it right." She frowned in concentration.

She knew it, she really did but nothing was coming to her brain right now. Techne. Techne. Techne. The blonde repeated the word in her head a few times, and then it popped into her head. Emmylou raised her hand up high. "Professor, doesn't it mean something like a method in the making of something?" She knew that was some of it or she could be wrong but at least she tried. It was better than not saying anything.

She raised her hand and said, "Techne has to do with the way we go about making something or accomplishing something". There, she had made a contribution. She was taking this class one question at a time today.
Creating. Making. Building. Yup, all synonyms for basically the same thing. The correct thing. "Yes, yes. Techne refers to the creation or building of something. So put together those two words, techne and ology and you get the study of building something, an application method to solve a problem or improve a pre-existing solution to a problem."

Making himself comfortable in his seat, Zander listened to the question. He heard a few other students giving answers, and they actually sounded pretty logical. Deciding to give it a go for himself, he raised his hand. "Could it mean having to do with technology or something?" Like the study of having to do with technology or something.... That did not sound right. Yeah okay.

Gryffindors. What was with them being more daft Sherlock than usual today? Again, Hadley fought the urge to roll her eyes when another Gryffindor answered with the same thing the question was.

"The term technology can be applied either generically or specifically to such areas as construction, medicine, or information technology. In essence, many of the advances in technology today actually brings muggle societies one step closer to being able to do what magical communities have been able to do for decades." It was sort of magic, some of the advances coming about in the muggle community, when one considered it. "The technological advances help to make muggles more productive, which in essence is what magic already does for us."

"Take five minutes and brainstorm different technological advances in muggle society - be in the computer or something less concrete like the internet - and write down its magic counterpart. For example, you might compare the telephone to the patronus. Try and write at least five examples on your papers."
