Alyssa stopped for awhile in order to figure out how to make her answer more logical and understandable
"Muggles want to read about things that won't possibly happen to them. Like really, the possibility of a muggle acquiring any super powers is totally nil."
"Likewise for us wizarding folk. We don't want to read about the things that we can do in comics. We can read about it in the newspapers. We want to read about the funny things that Muggles would do, that we wouldn't do."
Did she make sense? Alyssa hoped she did. Scabior nodded, more because he was listening than agreeing. "For the most part there you are right. However, they are not funny things that Muggles would do but rather funny things that some people believe Muggles do." Big difference there. Quote:

Minerva put her hand down and went back to drawing hearts and initials on her parchment. Scabior sighed. "That is a biased statement suggesting that Muggles are violent individuals. Need I remind you that we have just as many criminals locked up in Azkaban?" No. He couldn't even take the rest of the answer into consideration after that. Quote:

At least that's what Ella liked to do when she would read certain stories or comics. "Professor, I think there is something really erm intriguing about reading about a character who is unlike yourself. It grabs your attention because you're introduced to worlds you don't know a lot about. I guess that's why Muggles enjoy tales of superheroes with powers and wizards enjoy reading about Muggles?" Did that... make any sense at all? Ella hoped so. He nodded. "Yes. Exactly." Quote:

She thought about his question...quite an odd question if she did say so herself. Slowly she raised her hand but then she quickly lowered it. The answer in her head wasn't done yet. She needed to give it a but more thooooought. No need to go giving a dumb answer now was there? Nope.
She rocked back in her chair and gave it a bit more thought. Finally she had the answer!! "I got it! So, you see, Muggles have very boring lives. They can't do magic and nothing epic ever really happens to them! See, because they realized this they had to go and make up people who can do cool stuff to fill that empty void or whatever it's called. On the other hand WE already have a lot of epic stuff so we don't need to go writing about stuff that doesn't exist!"
Logic right there. He blinked. Gryffindors."Muggles could say that you have a boring life considering you don't have x-ray vision." Quote:

The sixth year knew a little bit about comic book heroes, thanks to Cerulean's lesson's last term, but the interest hadn't gone much further than that. Besides, most of his classmates had been more than eager to answer and he didn't feel like echoing them. Though the prospect of earning a chocolate frog was a bit enticing..
..but that seemed to have stopped now and the doodling continued. He glanced up at the mention of the wizarding comics. He knew of those but didn't really care about them. Ethan thought they were pretty dumb the first time he read one and he wasn't much of a reader anyway. Thinking about the question for a moment, Ethan raised his hand. "I guess it's about wanting to be entertained by what each respective community considers to be fantasy.. something different than their ordinary lives. Or else it feels more like non-fiction." Which was okay in its own right.. depending on the subject, but that's not really what they were talking about it. Good! Right on point. Scabior nodded in encouragement. Quote:

An I think all muggles dream of flying that's why they have things like airplanes and gliders... I think that's what they are called. And for us ... well to some of us muggles are intresting... for lack of a better word. So having a funny story about a crazy muggle would draw attention to a lot of magic folk." And there was the more innocent spin to it. She was correct as well. "Exactly" Quote:

Now for the second and third questions. "People in general know everything about normal stuff,'' the Puff continued. "So, they will want to read something different. Some can find it boring to read about everyday stuff in a comic. For example, with Muggles, they do not live in a world where there are super powers but with comics they are able to live that world. It opens a world where they can see things from a different perspective.'' "Yes to both." Both of his answers were in a way, correct. Quote:

But this question captured him for now. "I think Muggles like superheroes because there's an element of escapism. The world isn't perfect, right? But a hero can right some of those wrongs that the rest of the Muggles see in the world. It's not real, but it's an idealized version of the world... one that's totally fixable with the right superpowers added to the mix. But that wouldn't make sense to wizardingkind, 'cause we can do those things they attribute as super, and the world still isn't perfect. So superheroes are less appealing to us." Although he still liked them. Maybe that made him as fond of Muggles as West was.
"But I like Martin Miggs and Looney Nonby because they're funny. Hapless, even. They get into scrapes that I don't know that I can relate to because they're so fantastic, and then they get out of them again. So maybe there's that element of fantasy and escapism for us in those stories." Scabior nodded. This one was already starting off better than his sister. "Or perhaps its like that for the Muggles as well, having heroes with powers may just be an element of fantasy to them as well." Quote:

Raising his hand, Dylan shrugged. "I think it's more based on the fantasy of it. Muggles wished they could perform magic because it'd make their day to day lives easier...but wizarding people, like us, are curious about what it'd be like to just be normal. So, what I'm saying is...We're curious...and muggles just want to be able to use shortcuts."...because his father had expressed how he wished he could perform magic.
Also...."...Kinda like the grass is always greener on the other side, type thing." "Normal in the sense that we wouldn't have magic?" He was amusing that's what the boy meant. After all technically being a wizard or a witch was a normal thing to all of them. "Good way to put it." The grass is always greener type thing. "Though I could argue that both sides could just be curious?" Quote:

They use big explosions to kill people. Like they showed on TV and... Maybe they don't want to scare little kids," because he is scared with all those loud explosions and people screaming and crying. He saw dead children as well and the last time he remembered watching such thing, he cried the whole night.
Was that it? Oh! In the wizarding world... Well, they are magical human beings. "I don't think comics about flying men will be exciting," It's his personal opinion, but it should make sense to at least a few of them. Scabior was silent for a few seconds and stared at the boy. He appeared to be a first year. Lesson one at Hogwarts: "Be careful with what you say. Or Muggleborns might not like you too much." Really, he had to think. And why was he stuttering? "There are bad Wizards and Witches out there, just as there are bad Muggles, and they've killed hundreds. I can name many of them. So don't make that assumption." Quote:

Hey? Wait, hadn't people called her crazy before.
Yep. They had last year in-fact. "I think muggles don't have comicbooks about muggles who is crazy because they are muggles...we are magical and awesome so we don't know how it is to not use magic...unless your a squib and if you are going to school here chances are you aren't a squib." Yeah she as making total sense. "I think we don't have comicbooks about flying people because we can fly." She admitted. "See we know about how to make magic flying brooks fly....and muggles don't know how to do that."
See more reasons that muggles weren't as awesome as wizards and witches...even if they were cool. They just couldn't fly without a plane or space-rocks from the planet Krypton. The explanation was a bit..jumbled, but Scabior nodded all the same. Quote:

But it was. Beaaaams.
West thought about that question and threw his hand up. "Maybe because the point of fantasy is to imagine things that you know can't happen, or things that are different from your own experience and stuff? And.... sometimes stories like what are in comics are.... are..." What was the word, "Allegories for things. Like the unlikely or the impossible is used to represent a symbol or concept what might be harder to understand without making it fun and simple. Sometimes its like we get tricked into learning stuff and we don't even know it because we think we are reading for fun but really we're reading something that has a point and a lesson." Lessons like don't mess with cornish pixies for instance, and when muggles are nutso you should stay out of their way.
So to relate that back to the question and what he meant, "So like, when its a story what seems like its just for fun and fantasy and imaginings, really it might have a hidden meaning or lesson in it, and its better to hide those lessons in something that doesn't sound like you're learning junk, and something new and different that makes you interested to read it to begin with." West was up to something. Or thinking about it, by that look. He would have to give Hecate a heads up to keep an eye on the boy.
His reason though...it was different from the others but that didn't make it less correct. "That is the exact point of Fantasy." Scabior said with a small nod. Good job there Odessa. As for teh rest of what he said, he was right too.
In a way it was almost like this class. Thought to be about Muggle superheroes but that wasn't the real lesson behind it. Quote:

But Professor Scabior was reading and Beezus had to take her eyes off the prince charming for a bit. JUST FOR AN ITTY BITTY BIT.
Listening, she contemplated on the question before raising her hand up in the air. "Professor, I think it's because people tend to give more interest on new things." Emphasis on the word 'new'. "We have this innate, seemingly fixed behavior of turning our heads more to things that we aren't used to having around us. What's new always attracts attention and I guess muggles writing about superheroes and wizards adapting stories of non-magical folk is a response to this." Shrug. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.....back to Kyroh-watching. "Well I wouldn't exactly call them new. Wizards and Muggles used to co-exist together." Which was something she SHOULD know by now as he had taught her it! Quote:

Nigel still wish he had superpowers or a genius intellect like Batman. That would be so awesome. "In the simplest terms, yes." Quote:

Now, for more thinking. Hmm. The question Scabior had asked was definitely testing them if they had brains. Course, everyone did. Kat raised her hand. Uhm. "I think it's because Muggles don't have these powers and magic that we, witches and wizards, have," Kat said. "The way they wrote about the superheroes is only what they think people with powers do. It's based on their imaginations and beliefs." For example, not all Muggles are mad like Martin Miggs but that's what most of the wizards think Muggles are: crazy and unaware of the presence of magic. Geddit? A small Scabior nod. She was right however. It was just Scabior. Quote:

Hand in the air, Elise simply said what she thought. "Muggles want magic, that's why they want all their superheroes be special. Something they can't be." Pausing a moment to think, Elise continued. "Wizarding folk like to imagine Muggle life, so they make a comic full of such things."
"They're never happy with what they have." Elise never knew why. People were such strange, strange creatures. Always so complicated. "Oh I think they are happy." Scabior started slowly. "It's just fun to imagine." Was it not? Did she want to live in a world with no imagination? As a author, Scabior didn't. Quote:

Some people literally ONLY wanted things that weren't theirs just for the sport of it. There was a name for people like that...
ANYWAY, she rose her hand and said thoughtfully, "I think, Professor, that Muggles don't want to read about things that aren't fantastical. Fiction is an escape. Why emulate their normal lives when they can escape to something so much cooler and interesting for them. And for magic folk, I think we're all kind of intrigued by how Muggles live and get by without magic. It's like our own little escape into their world... like getting to try on their shoes." Yeah. Fantastical......Right. He raised a brow but then just nodded. She was correct after all. Quote:

Belle had experience this. I think everyone has wanted to go into another world. Belle has. "That's a good theory. It may just be correct. You never know." She should do research. With polls and graphs. Quote:

We don't see that stuff, so it is different and entertaining." Of course these were just Sue thoughts, but she thought they sounded pretty good. "Exactly. The ones that don't hang around Muggles don't understand them. The ones that do know it's a joke." Quote:

Making a few more notes, the red head looked up as she attempted to come up with an answer of her own. She had to have known something about this, after all she had been working at the Daily Prophet all summer. Surely she should have known what wizards were interested in reading or talking about.
Her lips pursed into their usual pout before she raised her hand, ready to say something. "Professor when people read they want to read about something that isn't usual, they want to read about something different, something they've never seen or heard of before, something that doesn't exist in their 'world'. Which is what I think is the case here." Wow. She was talking a lot, not something she usually did. "Superheroes is something they'd never see on a daily basis and Muggles, well for most Wizards and Witches it is also something we don't see often and for that reason it excites us and makes us curious." Enough said then? Heck yes. Completely right! And on that note- - "So, I know that many of you were thinking, and even asking what Muggle Superheros had to do with History of Magic." He looked over at the two who had so rudely asked, as if he had no reason for having this class. "And to be honest with you, usually it would have very little. However like I said earlier, sometimes textbooks don't always tell you what you need to know. Sometimes it's just psychological. What many of you said, just now is a realization that can not be made by reading anything from textbooks." "In the essence of fantasy, Wizards, Witches and Muggles alike tend not to write about what is normal for them. Because of this we end up actually writing or creating characters like the opposite group. We have muggles in our stories. We have a man who fights with a pixie. Generally we take things and people we don’t understand. Muggles are the opposite. They take people who they have no ability to be. Need a guy to save the world? Why not make him fly?"
He let it sink in for a bit before moving on. "As Wizards- and witches- we have the ability to do basically much of what Superman can do. We can fly, on brooms. We can produce fire with our wands, we can find a way to climb walls. Why do we need a Batman when we had Harry Potter? Batman could never live up." It made no sense. The guy was just rich and wore a bat suit. Nope. "And this whole idea is essentially one of the first things that you are taught maybe when you are a Muggle but especially when you are a Witch or a Wizard. The idea that your way of living is normal. So let's try and imagine something else. Something more fun." It was why when they were younger any of the ones who had grown up in a magical home probably wanted to get their hands on a wand. It is also probably why Muggleborns have the best understanding since their exposure. It was why he had chosen to make this topic a lesson. Because dates and names were great but the way wizards thought? That was just as important in history.
Checking his watch Scabior nodded. Alright. There was still some time. He flicked his wand causing the comic books on his desk to rise and another flick sent them drifting over, one muggle and one wizarding one on each desk. "For the rest of the time we have here, I want you to use the tools on your desk to create and draw an original fantasy character who would thrive in the wizarding or muggle community. If you are Muggleborn or grew up with Muggles I want you to do one on the Wizarding community, and the reverse if you grew up in a magical home. It doesn’t have to be perfect, the best writters in the world have yet to perfect them, just someone that would interest wizards and not so much muggles or vice versa." Well....get to it.
Huh? Done already? Kyroh raised his hand up high as he looked away from his comic. "I can help people! If you want help!" He grinned. He could! He knew what he would like to read about. OOC: Oh....this is long. I apologize. I will give you a free eye massages once you have read this post.Edit/Note: If you can't think of a character right now that's totally fine, just RP your character thinking or trying stuff out, whatever you want. Class will end really soon so that's just a heads up.
