Jack does.
He has to live with the memory of his own twin brother, Lev, dying. It happened three years ago- they were both fourteen. They were mountain climbing- and at the peak of Mount Elbrus, the snow gave way and both boys fell to the bottom, disappearing amongst the snow. When found, both were sent to hospital. Lev died of frostbite, shock, hunger, dehydration and he also bled to death from a wound in his leg. Jack nearly died- he was in a coma for months from a wound to the back of his head. He still has a noticeable scar on his left temple.
Jack went back to Durmstrang as soon as he recovered, and put everything he had into his schoolwork- sending his test results soaring. Now he's one of Durumstrang's most prestigious students, though he still longs for his brother.
