The next day Bren was being interrogated by Bob as both of them moved piles of muddy ground outside the tent. "It doesn't make sense, man," Bob said, grunting as he tossed the bucket on the toss-out place outside the Carnival ground.
Bren shrugged and used his wand to make the soil dissolve, "He said he had bigger matters in his hands."
Bob stood, panting, his hands on his waistline, "No way. Mr. Ash is the best Auror in Fortvania. He wouldn't forget two teenagers in a cell."
Bren sighed, "Listen, something serious is up. We all know it from the dark figures that are swarming the place, the man said he needed back up but the ministry doesn't listen," he said those words thoughtfully.
Bob elbowed Bren toward Lucie and her friends, getting buckets of water from the lake to inside the tent. All of them were using wands except for Nait who had her house-elf carrying the bucket for her. Bren scoffed, "Typical."
"You can't say no to a 'werewolf' if you're a slave," Bob said dramatically.
"She's so annoying," Bren said heatedly.
"Good thing you're not her boyfriend," Bob said purposefully, giving his friend a look.
"What?"
"I don't know. You tell me."
"That girl gets on my nerves a lot."
"And...?"
"Nothing!"
"Liar. You think she's cute."
Bren's jaw dropped open.
Bob nodded seriously, "You do. Your eyes say it all."
"You've gone insane-" Bren pushed his friends aside and went toward the tent just in time as Nait ran out of it toward a tall tanned guy who hugged and spun her around. The scene startled the wizard boy and he couldn't take his eyes off the couple as they kissed briefly and then went together toward the lake. Bren saw the house-elf working hard in the tent, using her magic sometimes or her tiny little hands if the mission allowed. He worked in silence, burying the unfair situation deep in the I-Don't-Care bag.
"Hey, tough guy," Lucie's voice woke him up.
He smiled down at her, "Hey, Lucie."
She wore a shiny white dress that reached her ankles and hugged her figure beautifully from above. "You were staring at me from far so I thought I could come and say hi," a nervous chuckle escaped her mouth.
Bren blinked taking in what she'd just said; was he really staring at her? Oops. "Uh.. sorry about that, I didn't notice." He focused back on the painting job he was doing.
"It's okay!" Lucie said quickly, apparently open for conversation, "I'm sorry about yesterday. Nait's a bit moody and jumpy. I should've warned you not to confront her."
Now, the girl had his attention. He faced her with a polite smile, "You didn't have to warn me, I saw it for myself but..I didn't confront her."
"Oh, I know. I was here." She beamed, Bren didn't know why but he ignored. She continued, "It's just.." Leaning closer, Lucie whispered, "Wand is a sensitive matter to her."
"Huh?" Bren arched his eyebrows.
"I can't say anymore," Lucie gave an apologetic smile.
"Okay. She just hates her wand too much that she brings a house-elf to do magic-job for her. I get it."
Lucie looked at the house-elf who was polishing the cabine, "Eela is her own house-elf, she doesn't mind."
Before Bren replied, Nait walked in with that hugging boy holding her hand. When she met Bren's eyes, she gave the evilest smiles anyone could give to someone. They headed to Eela, the house-elf, and Nait was talking.
"That's her muggle boyfriend," Lucie said, disgustedly.
"A muggle? How did he get in Fortvania?" Bren thought the community didn't let muggles in.
"His uncle's a wizard. He knows of us." The smile was wiped off her face as she looked at the couple, "Nait's going to drive her father crazy."
"He doesn't approve of muggles?"
"Not really. See, they're descendants of the founders of Fortvania and had been a highborn family. Being with a muggle isn't a fancy thing to any wizard, let alone a family like the Treacys."
Bren kept staring at Nait, now chastising the house-elf. He didn't get the idea of highborn family that founded the... wait, what? His eyes widened alarmed, "The Treacys are descendants of the founders? You mean they're..." he couldn't say it.
Lucie smiled proudly, "Yes. They're Malfoys."
