Alyssa was very excited about today. Here she was sitting in her room in the Girl’s dormitory. It was almost 5 month ago, that she first began her task of taking care of Queenie. Here she was back in the same place, where it all began. She felt like she had come back full circle. The day had finally arrived. The day of reckoning! Soon Alyssa would know whether her egg would hatch or not.

Alyssa was very excited because ever since Queenie had those funny quirks, she was really interested on finding out what was inside her egg. But before all this could happen, Alyssa had to make sure that Queenie was still doing fine.

She reached into her bag and pulled out the woolen sock. Taking the egg out of the sock, she held it in the palm of her hands. Even though its temperature felt normal and the covering was polished and free from dirt, Alyssa decided to perform the Excolo spell one more time. 'A little more polishing won’t hurt it,' she thought to herself. Taking out her wand, she waved it over the egg and while tracing every inch of it with her wand, she said “Ex-CO-lo”. A bright yellow beam engulfed the entire egg in her hand and the egg looked like it was the first day Alyssa picked it out. It’s colors and the swirling designs on the egg were bright and clear. The metallic shell was so polished that she could see her reflection on its surface. All she had to do now was wait for it to hatch….or not.

Alyssa hoped that it would hatch because she wanted to know that all her efforts keeping it clean and warm would be rewarded and that all the time spent taking care of it had not been a waste of time. Alyssa sat and looked at Queenie. She wondered what the egg would end up hatching into. Some ‘live’ creature or an inanimate object that just moved a lot. She hoped that it was a creature like a little baby owl or a phoenix. Now that would be so cool, since Phoenix’s were almost rare now and it would be nice to have one to take care of and protect at the same time, since Phoenix’s were now considered an endangered species. The more she thought about it, the more she hoped that it would be a live creature and not a metal ball or something. That would totally be a bummer.

All Alyssa had to do now was to wait to see what the Professor had to tell her.
