Ginny woke up with a start as mum opened the door quite noisily. “Mum, I’m sleeping, can’t you just leave me alone,” the red head complained.

“You know just as well as I that we need to be at King’s cross in now,” Molly Weasley paused to look at her watch. “It is 9 o’clock and the train leaves in one hour.” She said just realizing how late it really was. “Go down and quickly eat breakfast we do not want to be late.”

Ginny dressed as fast as she could. Trying to look fairly nice for her first day at Hogwarts. She ran down the stairs and flung some cerel into a bowl as quick as possible. “Is first year scary?” she asked the nice Hermione Granger who was sitting across the table from her.

“Not really,” Hermione said. “Except I was made fun of a lot for my extreme smartness. I am really beginning to wonder why the sorting hat didn’t put me in Ravenclaw. Not that I don’t like Gryffindor of course, it’s just that I think I am more of a Ravenclaw. What house are you aiming for?”

Ginny thought about this quietly for a moment. She wanted to say Gryffindor like my family, but she didn’t know who her real family was. It was extremely hard. “I don’t really care, just not Slytherin because…well just because.”

“Keep up, keep up,” Molly Weasley hussled them all along. “Where’s Ron and Harry?”

“I don’t know mum, haven’t seen them,” Ginny said as she looked around. She saw Hermione doing the same and looked at her and shrugged. “They were behind us weren’t they?” she whispered to Hermione.

“From what I know of, yes,” Hermione whispered back. “But I haven’t seen them since we got into Platform 9 and ¾.”

“Neither, “ Ginny said then shyly asked. “Since they aren’t here, or no where to be found, would you mind sitting with me?”

“Course not,” Hermione said cheerfully grabbing Ginny’s arm and towing her towards the train. They wandered the train for ten minutes before finally settling down in an open compartment.

Ginny sat down next to the window and pulled out her new diary she had gotten. It was cool, it was magic and wrote back. It made her feel so understood. She opened it up and began to write.

Tom,
I am finally on my way to Hogwarts. For some reason my brother and his friend, Harry Potter aren’t on the train. I am so utterly confused. Though I am extremely excited to be heading there at last and to be sorted. I wonder what house I will be in. What house where you in Tom? Maybe I will be in the same house.

Ginny watched it do its work and suddenly words appeared.

Ginny,
Oh onto Hogwarts have fun. That is odd don’t they have to be on the train to get to Hogwarts. Well why am I asking you I obviously know the answer is yes. There is always excitement when going to Hogwarts it is nothing new. I was alas a Slytherin, but don’t go by the myth of us being bad. Perhaps you will be a Slytherin. If you are, do tell me how it is.

Ginny shut the diary and shoved it in her bag. She couldn’t think of what to write now and Hermione was looking at her oddly.
