And so the students were getting started. Not wanting to miss out on any of the fun, Seren wandered around the table observing the students practice the charm. Quote:

Watching and scribbling on her parchment what the professor was saying, Louisa's mind was struggling to feel the joy in the lesson. In fact, Herbology wasn't her strong subject.. it was her guardian's aspiration but not Louisa's. At least the Professor was nice enough to handle the thing.
"flipnsnip--" She started but lost focus. Groaning, she cleared her throat and repeated, "flipnsnipwitit." Hmm.."That sounds ridiculous." She said quietly. She then grabbed a branch and started practicing the swishing movement near it. No incantation yet. That seemed easy enough.
"flipnsnipwitit. flipnsnipwitit. flipnsnipwitit. sn--" She giggled. She so has to play this game with her brothers one day! Saying this five times quickly! Another giggle. Fingers crossed it wasn't against the rules to giggle to oneself in the class -_-
The thirteen year old sat upright and cleared her throat. "flipnsnipwitit." She muttered swishing the wand against a branch, only to cause it roll over unaffected. She scowled at it. "Hmm. Not easy enough I see." She caught its end with her free hand and tried again, "flipnsnipwitit." The branch twitched. She threw it away, "It's broken." She said lamely and looked for another one.
There! A thinner one. "Flipnsnipwitit." She said determinedly and this time it worked. She swished and the trimming ,despite its awfulness, was a success. "Very good, very good... you're gettign the hang of it now," smiled Seren as she made her way around the table. Quote:

Simon smiled as he went and retreaved his wand, at least he had tried to get the Professor to give him it but she had refused and he wasn't going to argue, now he had to say the incantation. "Flipntssnipwitit" Simon was not sure if it sounded right, so he said it again. "Flipnsnipwitit." That sounded better. "Professor can I try it together now?" Simon had no idea if it was a good idea or not but he'd have to do it sometime. Seren gave Simon an apprehensive look... then a small smile. "I suppose you should... just be careful," she reiterated. She didn't want him throwing his wand around again. Quote:

Since this was a very useful spell he couldn't afford to forget it, so he quickly noted it on his notebook. He titled it "The Trimming Charm," added a brief description of the charm's purpose, its wand movement and finally the incantation. While he recorded it he realized that now he could trim his own hair, maybe even shave it and look like Shaw. He would try later. For now, he had to practice the incantation. "Snipnflipitwit, Witittoflipnslip, Flipslipwitin, Itflipnsnipwit, Flipwitsnipeniteiqe... " He repeated getting tongue tied and saying the incantation incorrectly over and over. It was one of those spells where all the syllables sounded so similar he couldn't remember their order. Finally, he consulted his notes and repeated each syllable separately, to avoid getting them mixed up. "Flip-N-Snip-Wit-It, Flip-N-Snip-Wit-It, Flip-N-Snip-Wit-It... Flipnsnipwitit." He took his time, but after several attempts he finally managed to master the incantation. That is, so long as he spoke slowly. "Flipnsnipwitit, Flipnsnipwitit, Flipnsnipwitit."
Next was the wand movement. He picked up his wand, and without saying anything he swished it around. It started to look like he had broken his wrist and his hand was flailing around. It was simple enough, though, so he wasn't too worried about getting that wrong. All he had to do was manage to keep his wand pointed at the tree and not at someone's head, or their eyebrows, or that Ravenclaw girl's mustache. "Good, good," nodded Seren in approval. "Have a go on the branch now." Quote:

Then, she practiced the wand movement. She gracefully swished her wand back and forth. She guessed it did pay off to be a dancer--she always got the wand movements right. It was just the words she needed to work on.
Let's try again, shall we? "Flipnsnipwitit!" "Very good, have a go on the branch now," encouraged Seren with a smile. Quote:

Back to class.
The trimming charm. It seems simple, Stella took out her wand and began practicing the wand movement. After doing two swishes with her wand she stopped swishing her wand and began trying pronounce the charm. "Wlipsnipitit," she mumbled to herself, "Stupid charms, so hard to pronounce!!!" For a spell it was rather hard to pronounce, probably because the word has too many syllables. "Flipmsnipit," she mumbled to herself again, disappointed of herself because she can't pronounce the chaem, irritated she again mumbled rather loud, "Flipnsnipwitit!" She turned silent, it took her a while to notice that she got the pronunciation correct. She tied-up her hair and began pronouncing the trimming charm ,in her head, with the wand swish. It took her time to get used to pronunciation of the spell but she got used to it later.
Now to assignment. She took a pot of the Flutterby Bush and just stared at the plant for a while. It seemed rather harmless, she took her wand out and pointed her wand at a small leave, and with a swish of her wand she said the trimming charm AND... The leave moved a bit to the right. Stella smiled and mumbled to herself, "Well there goes beginners luck." Again pointing her wand at the leave, "Flipnsnipwitit," she said with a swish of the wand AND... Nothing happened. "Stupid wand... Start working," she said annoyed banging her want at the pot almost breaking it.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breathe she pointed her wand at the leave, again and said, swishing her wand, " Flipnsnipwitit," AND as usual the leave moved a bit. "You're not making this easy on me are you," she said staring at her wand wanting break it, how did this wand chose her? They don't go along at all. "Okay," she sighed annoyed, "Last time, Stella," she whispered to herself, "If someone can do it, so can you, and you're a Ravenclaw the smart ones, so give pride to your house," she thought to herself re-tying her hair. "Flip-n-snip-wit-it!!!" she said irritated giving her wand a swish AND... The leave fell of the branch. "Hallelujah!!!" she said looking up towards the ceiling raising her hands up, she was so proud of herself. "Probably I need to be angry so the that spells will work," she thought to herself feeling finally relaxed.
She pointed her wand to another leave and saying she trimming charm giving her wand a swish and it easily fell of the bush. And she did like that to some other leaves with until the professor will ask them to stop. GAH MERLINS BEARD!!! "NO NO NO no no no!!!" said Seren suddenly... how on earth did this child get her hands on the Flutterby Bush? she hadn't brought them out yet. "Were you not listening to instructions?... we are only practicing on these loose branches," she said in a level voice indicating to the various loose branches in the middle of the table. "Not on the actual plant yet."
Gah!... Lucky for her she didn't harm the plant in any way... though it could have been disastrous! "3 points... for not following instructions properly." Quote:

"Flipnsnipwitit. Flipnsnipwitit." Alright, he was pretty sure he had that down. And the wand movement was just swishing your wand? Well, that didn't seem hard at all. He swished his wand about a few times. "Good as gold," he said.
Alright, it was time to practice on a tree branch. He took the one that had materialized in front of him and stared at it for a moment. "Alright, you're going down," he said to it. He concentrated, swished his wand toward the end of the branch, and said, "Flipnsnipwitit!" A slice appeared in the branch, but it hadn't gone all the way through. A few leaves had fallen off, though, but he wasn't sure if that was from the spell, or if it had been more from the impact of the spell hitting a different part of the branch. Huh. How'd that happen?
"Alright, Lucas, try it again." (He was beginning to discover that he had a bad habit of talking to himself in class.) He swished his wand toward a different area and repeated the incantation. This time, the slice was a bit deeper, but still not all the way through. "Darn it! One more time." He aimed for another area, swished, and incanted (if that was even a word). HA! Clean break. He'd managed to trim back some of the leaves quite nicely, if he did say so himself. Yeaahhhh!!! "Alright! Awesome." He grinned to himself.
Hmm. These little twigs seemed a bit frivolous. May as well slice those off, right? He aimed toward them, swished, and said, "Flipnsnipwitit!" Off came the twigs. This was kinda fun. Maybe he should find a plant to prune later tonight... Would this work on other things? Could he prune, say, a bedpost? Not that he was going to try that. He didn't actually want to get in trouble. "Nice wandwork," smiled Seren, as she passed by. Quote:

Samira repeated the incantation in her head a few times: Flipnsnipwitit, before saying it out loud. "Flipnsnipwitit," she said clearly and confidently. "Flipnsnipwitit, flipinsnipwitit...okay." Samira picked up her wand and did a few swishy movements. Easy.
She then turned to her plant. "Prepare to be trimmed Mr. Plant..." Raising her wand to the plant, she said, "Flipnsnipwitit!" A small cut appeared on one of the branches, but nothing major. Scowling, she tried again. "Flipnsnipwitit!" Another small cut, but not the desired effect. Samira was not positively glaring at the blasted plant.
The next few seconds was filled with Samira determinedly muttering, "Flipnsnipwitit! Flipinsnipwitit!!" Finally, mostly all the leaves-save for one particularly stubborn one-was trimmed back. Smiling in satisfaction, Samira once again reassured herself that she would never be bested by a plant. "Good work." Quote:

She shrugged and figured they'd find out soon enough. "Flipn...." Ugh. This sounded so made up. Sierra frowned. "Flipn---arrgh!" ... "Flipnsnipwitit!" There. That was it, hmm? "Flipnsnipwitit!" The wand movement was easy enough. She swished it around a little before adding the incantation to it. "Flipnsnipwitit!" "Nice work Miss Griengoth," smiled Seren noticing the Slytherin was getting the hang of it. Quote:

She took out her wand as she listened to her professor explain and then watched her demonstration. Nika let out another small sigh as she brought her wand forward. She almost did the spell before realizing that she'd need to practice the incantation and the movement before she did it. That always seemed to help make things easier.
She repeated the incantation a couple times out loud, "Flip-n-snip-wit-it, Flip-n-snip-wit-it, Flip-n-snip-wit-it, Flip-n-snip-wit-it!" Then when she had gotten the hang of saying that out loud she brought up her wand again and then did the swishing movement. Back, then forth, back, then forth. Now to put the two together.
Bringing her wand in front of her body she took a deep breath before muttering, "Flip-n-snip-wit-it!" She did the movement and then looked and nothing happened. Of course. This is a routine for Nika by now. It always takes seven tries at least, to get the spell right. She put the thoughts behind her and tried again, "Flip-n-snip-wit-it" Still nothing. Maybe she could ask someone around her for some help. Noticing Miss Adler was having some difficulty Seren stopped behind her. "Just take a deep breath dear and relax a little. Then with a soft easy movement," Seren demonstrated with a light flourish of her wand, " Flip-n-snip-wit-it ..." "Give it another go." Quote:

"Flipnsnipwithit." Isa said trying. That was wrong. She tried again. "Flipnsnipwitsit." Wrong again. She started taliking to herself. "It is flip n snip wit it. Come on you can do it. Flipnsnipwitit." She said swishing her wand around.
IT WORKED? Not a heart but all right. "Nice... very good," nodded Seren glancing over the girls charm work. Quote:

"Flipnsnipwitit!" She made a motion across a branch with her wand. Still nothing. Presley knew she was hopeless at plants, but really? This was a spell! She should've done fine! "Flip-n-snip-wit-it!" Presley enunciated each syllable. Nothing. She raised her hand high in the air. "Professor? Can you come help me? I think I must be doing something wrong, because this isn't working." Help? ... Trim a Flutterby Bush?! Kurumi's eyes widened. Those bushes moved around like a child being tickled by an older sibling who simply refused to stop until the younger sibling was exhausted.
Setting her wand in its turquoise holster down on the table, Kurumi used her finger instead as she practiced the incantation. "FLIP-n-SNIP-wit it...flip-N-snip-WIT-it..." Somehow, it sounded a bit off. Professor Bentley hadn't really emphasized any particular part of the spell, had she? Kurumi played back the sound in her memory. No, she had sounded more fluid and calm when she had said it. "Flip-n-snip-wit-it," Kurumi repeated again as she enunciated each word. Repeating it five more times slowly, Kurumi then set to making it sound more fluid and less like she was gasping for air. "Flipnsnipwitit...flipnsnipwitit...flipnsnipwitit," she repeated as she waved her index finger around a bit.
Now picking up her wand, Kurumi more hummed the incantation as she copied the wand movement she had observed earlier. "Swish back...and forth..." she hummed as her wand did the same.
Her violet eyes now went to the tree branch resting on her desk and Kurumi swallowed. Alright, this branch wasn't going anywhere unless someone opened a window and allowed a really strong gust of wind in. This spell couldn't cause anyone to lose a finger, could it? It was different from a Severing Charm, yes? "P-Professor Bentley," Kurumi asked as she waved her wand around a bit more for extra practice. "Are the principles revolving around this spell similar to a Severing Charm? I guess, I am just curious as to why this spell for cutting leaves and not the other." Was this one plant friendly?
Branch now sitting right in front of her. Kurumi swished her wand back and forth. "Flipnsnipwitit," she chirped and heard a soft WOOSP noise as the spell hit a leaf, but only made a small impression it it similar to when one stabs a leaf with their fingernail. Right, focus. What was it that she was always being told? Magic is half intention half concentration?
Trying again brought her repeated results. Maybe she was afraid of hurting the tree branch? Well, that was silly considering the branch was already detached from the tree.
Nodding her head to no one in particular, Kurumi repeated the wand movement, focused her gaze on one leaf in particular, and repeated, "Flipnsnipwitit!"
This time, the spell made a clean cut and the leaf softly blew a few inches away from the branch. "They're similar in that they can both be used, though it really comes down to efficiency. Diffindo is best for single, straight cuts, especially on thick branches and such. But Flipnsnipwitit is best for trimming because, for starters its quicker, and the cuts aren't as deep so its harder to make mistakes." Quote:

Mr. Plant be prepared to be trimmed.
She smirked to herself as she brought up her wand again. Nika quickly blew a strand of hair away from her eyes as she muttered the incantation again, "Flip-n-snip-wit-it" Yes, yes... No, no... Nothing. This was probably the sixth time.
Well you know what they say, seventh times the charm...?
Right okay focus Nika, focus. This time you got it. The plant is gonna get it. "Flip-n-snip-wit-it" Annnnd TADA! Finally the spell seemed to have an effect on the plant. Thank merlin that was out of the way. "There you go... don't give up. You'll have the hang of it in no time." Quote:

Alright. She decided to start with the wand movement, since that was the simple part. The girl took her wand out of the pocket of her robes and pointed it towards her parchment, juuuust in case the spell worked. She didn't want to cut anyone's head off. Nope, she surely didn't want that. Swish, swish, swish.
Yup, that was simple. Now the incantation.
Helena placed her wand on the desk, then began to mumble. "Flipisnipi..." No... "Flipnslipwiiiii..." No... "Flip-n-snip-wit-it." Yes! "Flipnsnipwitit." HA! "Very good, now have a go at practicing dear," encouraged Seren. Quote:

Okay, no. This wasn't happening. Maybe in a couple years....maybe. "Flibbidis-" Hahahaha.
Ellie put her forehead on the table and giggled into her lap. She was officially unfocused. "Got the case of the giggles dear?" asked Seren as she approached the Ravenclaw Seeker. She smiled, "I remember I had the same difficulty when I first learned it. Take a deep breath and have another go." "Flip-n-snip-wit-it." Quote:

"Flipnsnipwitit." she muttered as she brought her wand across one of the overgrowing branches. Nothing happened. She tried again and still nothing happened. On her fourth try she noticed a small cut in the branches. She took a deep breath. Concentrated very hard and tried again. This time the offending branch came right off. She smiled and inspected the incision; a perfect cut! No ragged edges or anything. She grinned, "Cool." she said. It was a pretty cool spell and deserved the recognition. "Very good dear," smiled Seren.
Well they appeared to have gotten the hang of it- on the most part. "Ok everyone, now today we will be caring for a Flutterby Bush... this will include trimming it, replanting it, feeding it, and watering it." She paused to let this all sink in.
Flicking her wand, the instructions appeared on the board. She flicked her wand once more and a small cart of Flutterby Bushes wheeled itself into the greenhouse stopping in front of the long table at the front. "Now you need to be careful ... the Flutterby Bush will move around a fair bit, so take care when trimming it." She didn't want them looking ugly after all. "So what your going to do once you have trimmed your Flutterby Bush.. is your going to transplant it into the ground over here," she said gesturing to the empty flowerbed on the left hand side of the greenhouse. "You will need to fertilize the soil as well as the bush, so please follow the instructions carefully. Once you have planted your bush you will need to water it, this is very important and it should always be the first thing you do after planting something." "Once you are done, take a coloured ribbon and a tag," Seren swished her wand and numerous coloured ribbons and tags appeared on the table, "... write your name and house on it and attatch it to your bush." "All the materials you need, will be up here at the front of the greenhouse. Don't forget your dragon hide gloves... and are there any questions?" Quote:

5. Place the Flutterby Bush into the hole and fill it in with the soil you dug out. Pat it down gently-- not too firm otherwise you may suffocate the roots.

7. Sprinkle a little dragon dung around its base. Tag your plant. OOC: To achieve full participation marks for the activity you need to complete the RP in no less than 7 posts (One for each of the instructions). Please LABEL each post with the instruction you are up to, e.g. Post #1
