Hello everyone! Oh please, common in! Here, have some delicious hot baked cookies with a refreshing glass of butterbeer! Make yourself feel at home. This is my second fanfiction on Snitchseeker. The first one is "The Hands of Time" in the Epics and Adventures section.

If you are new to this fanfiction, expect to read a variety of different stories based on the bittersweet moments in the life of not one, but several Harry Potter characters. So in other words, this story is not necessarily only focused on one particular character. Maybe that's what makes it exciting and unexpected at times. Expect surprises!

Disclaimer:

I would like to give credit to author JK Rowling who has created the wonderful world of Harry Potter which has been a source of entertainment and inspiration for generations to come.

Love/Hatred, a Riddle

His heart skipped a beat as he turned around a corner of the corridor and came face to face with “her”. His eyes locked on hers for a moment too long. Look away! He couldn’t. He couldn’t resist those captivating black eyes which were sucking his sole in like a black hole. He tried to keep it together and stand firm on the spot. Perhaps for once in his life, he was prevailed over by someone else. It was not making any sense and he was not allowing it to become sensible. Look away! And so he did.

“Oh I’m so sorry,” he excused himself rather timidly as he stopped in his track and moved aside allowing her to pass by. His movements were rather jumpy and he didn’t like that. He must have looked like a fool. She smiled her dazzling smile and thanked him for moving out of her way. The corner of his lip twitched. Unwillingly, he imitated her and smiled back. He assumed that it was the right sort of response, yet something felt wrong. He was confused, that’s what it was. He was confused of his own feelings.

He mustn’t let his heart give in to this new emotion so easily. No, no! It’s dangerous! Call it love if you will, but that sort of thing is for the weak, the ones with feeble will and those who are easily persuaded by others. He however, was strong-minded and he ought to continue carrying out his purpose with unwavering determination. Giving in to love was like an obstacle which stood in his way to success. He owned his life and so it was all about him. He strongly believed in the ideology that only the selfish will win. It’s a selfish world and so in order to survive and to grasp power and authority, he must be selfish as well. He only, a life about him, a life centered around him, a life without her.

He couldn’t see how she would tie into this picture, the image of him on the peak of a mountain, holding the cup of victory and looking down, way down on those bowing before him, those too weak to climb up this steep slope, in other words, his servants. He could suddenly imagine her amongst them and so his heart froze. A cold sense of displeasure and revulsion crept upon his core being, overshadowing the initial warm feeling that he was so unfamiliar with. Now he felt more comfortable as if he could fit better in his own skin. He was neither cared for nor loved by others, and so he didn’t see any reason why he’d have to love anyone else. He was a vengeful young man, yet he did not beg for pity. In his eyes, the pitiful were the lovers.

He stared into her deep black eyes and she suddenly went rigid and her smile faded. Worry and fear replaced it. He wasn’t sure of what was shown by his expression but whatever that it was, it had clearly seemed vile and repulsive.

A group of innocent people were bowed by force before him. He was at the peak of power, enjoying his supremacy. His wand swished frantically from left to right, almost as if acting on its own will. He could no longer decide whether if he had control over the spells that he ranted unstoppably. Bodies after bodies lay unconscious down on the floor. It was like drinking a glass of water; to him, it felt fulfilling and pleasurable. He laughed madly as he watched his last victims fall down before him as if he was playing a game of bowling and rolling the ball directly into the central target of the pins.

Then it came down to his last victim. Before he could call out the curse which was right on the tip of his tongue, she looked up into his eyes. He felt like in that instant all the energy was drained out of him. His heart stopped and the wand in his hand almost slipped from in between his fingers. It was “her”!

He couldn’t take it; it was too much for him to bear. He agreed; he was weak, too weak to stand those dark, mystifying eyes. “Avada Kadavra!” And so those eyes were closed for ever and with them was buried love.

He dissaparated and ran, ran away. He ran into no particular destination. He only ran for he could not stand in the presence of that sight. Once out of view of any audience, he fell down to his knees, sank his fingers into the damp earth, filled his lung with a good load of air and let out a loud holler, a scream that drained his whole being. His cry reached the sky and echoed around the field, bounced back and reached his own ear. It struck even himself to notice how much agony and burden it had carried. For once in a very long time, tear drops escaped both his eyes. He let them flow.

Author's note: Any guesses on who the character is? Also please comment if you liked the first chapter, I don't bite!
