Author's Note: This chapter is dedicated to two of my bros, because they turn Eighteen soon.

CHAPTER TWO: Part twp

The next couple days went by smoothly, I would talk with Scorpius when we were alone, not about much really, but it was enough for me that someone could hear me. I attended classes still, but now, if I didn't understand something, I could tell Scorpius and he would ask the teacher.

It worked the other way around in potions. I was naturally good at potions, just like the rest of my family. So when had trouble, I would simply pick up his arm, after tapping him on his shoulder so he knew, and guide it through the steps, while telling him what he was doing wrong.

Well, until once when the teacher seemed to see the blank look over Scorpius's features as he blanked out, as he did often when I was nagging on what he was doing wrong, and starting yelling at Scorpius. I laughed, he glared at my general direction.

When I said, "Serves you right for not listening," I heard the girl, who I was standing by and had unfortunately thought his glare was meant for her, whisper to her friend, "I think that Malfoy boy had it out for me.."

I turned to look at the whisperer, and smiled, the girl was Rose Weasley.

Later that night I lay down on the Slytherin's common room couch, thinking. Tears escaped my eyes, I watched my reflection in the mirror on the wall, directly across the couch. It was such an odd spot for the couch, to be facing the wall, with the fireplace behind it. I thought about how I could see tears cascading from my mist blue eyes, how no one else would ever see the same thing I was.

"Why me?" I questioned quietly. I know, what a cliché, the whole 'why me?' bit. But I was really feeling sorry for myself, and thought I deserved that one question. I didn't care how, I didn't care when, I didn't care who, all I cared about, was the why.

I remembered a time when William would always ask, "What ya feeling?" And sometimes I would respond, "annoyed," because it was proper. But now, I could hear his voice in my head, "what ya feeling?" so I tried to answer.

"I am feeling.." I began, "I am feeling...confused."

That didn't feel right, I mean, I was confused, but that wasn't exactly what I was feeling. "I am feeling a lot."

I heard foot steps coming this way, but I didn't look up, no one cared about me anyway. "Bethany?" I heard whispered, "You down here?" It was Scorpius.

I stayed quiet. I didn't want to talk to him. What could I say anyway? He only just met me.

"Well, if you are down here, good night. I wasn't sure if you could eat or not..." he placed a mug down on the small end table, I could smell chocolate, I inspected the steam rising out of the mug.

A small smile tugged at the ends of my lips, it was thoughtful of him, even though I couldn't eat. Deep inside I realized now what I was feeling. As Scorpius reached the bottom of the stairs, I finally spoke, "Scorpius?"

He stopped on the bottom step, and turned around, "Where are you?"

"I'm on the couch," I answered, I didn't why I thought I could trust him, why I would talk to him, but it wasn't like I could talk to anyone else. He sensed something in my voice, and came to the couch. He waited for a moment before sitting, giving me time to adjust my position. I pulled my legs to my chest, wrapped my arms around my legs and rested my chin between my knees.

"What's up Bethany?" he asked, not unkindly.

I didn't know how to say it, so I just said the firsts words that to mind, three simple words. In a very small voice I told him, "I am scared."

Scorpius was silent for a moment, obviously not knowing how to respond, then, "Of?"

"Well, for one, of never seeing my brother again, or more likely, him never seeing me," I answered, I was scared that he would continue to blame himself for my disappearance, and would never know, or notice, the truth that was staring him in the face.

Scorpius nodded, "There is more, isn't there?"

It was my turn to nod, "Yes," I whispered. I took a second, then I decided to tell him, "I'm afraid I'll disappear, for real this time. I'm afraid that one day, I'll just be carried off with the wind. Or that I get into trouble somehow, no one will know to look for me."

Scorpius thought for under a second, just enough time for his jaw, normally slacked, to set. "The wind can't carry you off, because I'll be here to hold you down. And I'll know to look for you, and somehow, I would help you."

I look his in the eyes, even though his were targeted an inch or so above mine, and said in an even smaller voice, "What if one day you won't be here either?"

He reached out, and found my hand, still pressed under my knee, he took a hold on it, "Bethany Stone," he told me, "I will always, always, be here for you. Do you hear me?"

I nodded, then added, "Yes."

"Good, now get to bed," Scorpius stood up.

I smiled and told him as a 'good night', "Yes Mom!"

He smirked, in a way that made me think that he must have a lot of practice with smirking, "Goodnight Bethany," he responded before disappearing up the stair.

And that was the real beginning of our friendship, a friendship that would take us to the end of the world and back...
