Default Sunday in New York DVD

Technicolor. Loud, groovy music. Mel Torme. Just screams early ‘60s sex comedy, doesn’t it?

Well, Sunday in New York doesn’t disappoint on that front. Plus you get some cool retro images of New York, along with a yearning for simpler times at the airport.

Here’s the plot: Twenty-something Eileen (Jane Fonda) leaves her boyfriend (Robert Culp) when he tries to get frisky before he “puts a ring on it.” She decides to lay low in her brother’s (Cliff Robertson) bachelor pad in swinging-‘60s Manhattan, thinking her brother is just as chaste as she is. Meanwhile, Elaine meets a rather charming man (Rod Taylor) on a bus and they get soaked in the rain, so they hightail it back to the pad to warm up. Just as things heat up a bit too much, Elaine’s boyfriend comes looking to make amends by proposing. Long story short: The charming man pretends to be Elaine’s brother, Elaine’s brother pretends he isn’t trying to sneak off to sleep with his girlfriend, and hilarity ensues.

No doubt considered a bit risqué when it hit theaters nearly five decades ago, this film makes a good choice for family night entertainment these days.

Sunday in New York can be purchased exclusively at Warner Bros Online Shop.
